Krishna Trails
Krishna Trail is a journey through the places associated with Lord Krishna during his time on earth from his Birth to Death.
Krishna, Sanskrit Kṛṣṇa, one of the most widely revered
and most popular of all Indian divinities, worshipped as the eighth incarnation
(avatar, or avatara) of the Hindu god Vishnu and also as a supreme god in his
own right. Krishna became the focus of numerous bhakti (devotional) cults,
which have over the centuries produced a wealth of religious poetry, music, and
painting. The basic sources of Krishna’s mythology are the epic Mahabharata and
its 5th-century-CE appendix, the Harivamsha, and the Puranas, particularly
Books X and XI of the Bhagavata-purana. They relate how Krishna (literally “black,”
or “dark as a cloud”) was born into the Yadava clan, the son of Vasudeva and
Devaki, who was the sister of Kamsa, the wicked king of Mathura (in modern
Uttar Pradesh). Kamsa, hearing a prophecy that he would be destroyed by
Devaki’s child, tried to slay her children, but Krishna was smuggled across the
Yamuna River to Gokula (or Vraja, modern Gokul), where he was raised by the
leader of the cowherds, Nanda, and his wife Yashoda.
Vrindhvan (Mathura)
Vrindavan also spelt Vrindaban and Brindaban, is a historical
city in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located in the Braj
Bhoomi region and holds religious importance in Hinduism as Krishna spent most
of his childhood days in this city.
GOKUL (Mathura)
Gokul is a town in the Mathura district of the Indian
state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located 15 kilometres south-east of Mathura.
According to Bhagavata Purana, Krishna spent his childhood in Gokul.
Kurukshetra
Kurukshetra is a city and administrative headquarters of Kurukshetra district in the Indian state of Haryana. It is also known as Dharmakshetra ("Realm of duty ") and as the "Land of the Bhagavad Gita".
Dwarka
Dwarka is a town and municipality of Devbhumi Dwarka
district in the state of Gujarat. Dwarka has the Dwarkadhish Temple dedicated
to Lord Krishna, which is one of four sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites called the
Chardham, which were founded by Adi Shankaracharya at the four corners of the
country.
Somnath
The Somnath temple, also called Somanātha temple or Deo
Patan, is a Hindu temple located in Prabhas Patan, Veraval in Gujarat, India.
It is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus and is the first among
the twelve jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva.
Veraval (Somnath)
Veraval is a city and the headquarters of Gir Somnath
district in the Indian state of Gujarat. Veraval is famous Lord Krishna temple,
Bhalka Tirtha, This is the place where Lord Krishna is said to have been
mistakenly shot in the foot. Nearby is Dehotsarg, where he succumbed to his
mortal wound.
Dakor
Dakor in Kheda District of Gujarat is prominent for its grand temple of Shree Krishna which has a historical significance. The main temple, enclosed by a fort wall, is situated near the bank of the holy lake Gomati in the midst of the main bazaar of Dakor.
